Skripal accidentally poisoned himself? Strong clues suggest so.

Now the Scotland Yard has said Skripal probably got poisoned at home and they have traced the poison back to his front door. What does this tell you? The substance was not at all powerful enough to take life of the victim instantly or even near that. If Russia was behind the scandal why would they use a weak chemical? Some argue that it is to buy time to enable the spies to escape. But, that does not fit to the puzzle. If the chemical agent reacts slowly it might give Skripal time to report to police?
